From Loom to Cape

The journey of this cape begins on a handloom, where artisans weave bamboo and cotton yarn into soft, breathable fabric. Once the cloth is ready, it is carefully shaped by our master tailor into the versatile cape silhouette. Each step — weaving, cutting, tailoring, and finishing — is done with patience and attention to detail before the cape begins its journey to you.

Care

Your Bamboo Cape can be washed in the washing machine using a gentle cycle. Lay flat to dry to maintain its shape and softness.

Every Bamboo Cape begins its journey with natural fibres — bamboo and organic cotton — carefully blended together at the fibre stage. This early blending creates a soft, breathable yarn where the strength of cotton and the smoothness of bamboo come together.

Once the fibres are prepared, they are spun into yarn and dyed before the weaving preparation begins. Threads are then carefully arranged on the loom in a process known as warping, where precision and patience are essential before weaving can start.

With the loom prepared, skilled artisans begin weaving the fabric by hand. The bamboo and cotton yarn is woven slowly on traditional looms, creating a lightweight cloth known for its softness, breathability, and gentle drape. Working with natural fibres and hand-operated looms means each piece carries small variations that make it unique.

Once the fabric is woven, it is sent to our master tailor. Here the cloth is carefully shaped into the versatile cape silhouette. Arm openings are added so the cape can be worn in multiple ways — as a wrap, cape, or poncho.

The capes are then washed, finished, and labelled before they are ready for their next journey.

From the weaving communities in India, the finished capes travel to our studio in Amsterdam, where they become part of the Fifth Origins collection before continuing on to the people who will wear them.

Each Bamboo Cape carries the work of many hands — from preparing the fibres and weaving the fabric to tailoring and finishing the final piece.
