nira shirt - kala cotton wool
Nira Shirt
Kala Cotton & Wool
The Nira Shirt is designed as an easy, relaxed unisex silhouette — comfortable, breathable, and made for everyday wear.
The fabric itself carries a beautiful story.
It is handwoven in Kala cotton blended with wool by Bhavna in Kutch. Kala cotton is an indigenous cotton that grows naturally in the dry landscapes of western India and requires very little water. The wool, sourced from the Himalayas, brings warmth and softness to the textile.
What makes this fabric particularly special are the woven colour blocks and subtle motifs. These patterns are not printed or added later — they appear directly on the loom as the fabric is woven, thread by thread.
Soft earth tones move across the cloth in large panels, while delicate woven dots and fine stripes bring quiet detail to the textile.
The result is a fabric that feels both minimal and deeply rooted in craft.
The Nira Shirt is part of our Bloom collection, where materials, craft traditions, and design slowly come together — much like the natural world that inspires them.

This fabric carries the rhythm of a family loom in Kutch through our Reyaan community.
It is woven by Bhavna, who learned the craft from her father - a weaver of more than 30 years. The loom sits inside their home, where the sound of weaving has been part of everyday life for as long as she can remember. For the past eight years, Bhavna has been weaving alongside that same rhythm.
On her loom, Kala cotton and wool from the Himalayas come together - two natural fibres shaped by very different landscapes. Kala cotton, resilient and rooted in the dry lands of western India, meets the warmth of wool sourced from Himalayan sheep herders.
Thread by thread, the yarn is set on the loom. As the shuttle moves across, the motifs slowly appear in the cloth itself - not printed, not embroidered, but woven directly into the fabric.
A meeting of landscape, craft, and the quiet patience of the hands that make it.
