riva top - kala cotton

Versatile Pintuck Top
Colour, craft, and everyday ease. Handwoven in 100% Kala cotton and dyed with natural colors with applique craft.

Kala Cotton (naturally dyed)

Some pieces carry colour with quiet strength.

The Riva Top is designed with a more structured silhouette — full sleeves, a soft round neckline, and fine pin tucks that bring gentle form to the front.

At the heart of Riva is the textile.

The fabric is handwoven in Kala cotton and naturally dyed, giving it a deep, earthy red tone. Kala cotton, indigenous to Kutch, grows in dry landscapes and requires very little water.

What makes this piece special is its simplicity.

Without motifs, the focus shifts — to the richness of the colour, the texture of the weave, and the precision of the pin tucks.

There is a clarity to it.
A quiet strength.

The pin tucks create structure, while the natural dye allows the fabric to hold depth and variation.

The result is a piece that feels grounded, warm, and composed.

The Riva Top is part of our Bloom collection, where materials, craft traditions, and design come together slowly — much like the natural world that inspires them.

This fabric carries the rhythm of a family loom in Kutch through our Reyaan community.

It is woven by Manji Bhai, who has spent more than 30 years at the loom. In his home, weaving is part of everyday life - the steady movement of the shuttle and the quiet rhythm of the loom shaping fabric thread by thread.

For this textile, Kala cotton is used - an indigenous cotton grown in the dry landscapes of western India. Resilient and naturally adapted to the region, it has been part of local textile traditions for generations.

Once the yarn is set on the loom, the fabric begins to take form. As Manji Bhai works, the motifs slowly appear directly in the cloth - not printed or embroidered later, but woven into the textile itself.

A fabric shaped by landscape, craft, and the quiet patience of the hands that make it.
