Kala Cotton (Woven Motifs)

Some pieces hold their shape quietly.

The Riva Top is designed with a more structured silhouette — full sleeves, a soft round neckline, and fine pin tucks that run along the front, bringing subtle form and detail to the piece.

At the heart of Riva is the textile.

The fabric is handwoven in Kala cotton in the weft by our weaving community in Kutch. Kala cotton is an indigenous cotton that grows naturally in the dry landscapes of the region and requires very little water.

What makes this textile particularly special are the woven motifs. They are not printed or embroidered later — each detail is created directly on the loom, thread by thread.

The patterns sit gently across the fabric, while the pin tucks introduce a different rhythm — structured, linear, and precise.

There is a balance here.
Between softness and form.

The result is a piece that feels composed yet easy — where structure comes quietly, without rigidity.

The Riva Top is part of our Bloom collection, where materials, craft traditions, and design come together slowly — much like the natural world that inspires them.

This fabric carries the rhythm of a family loom in Kutch through our Reyaan community.

It is woven by Manji Bhai, who has spent more than 30 years at the loom. In his home, weaving is part of everyday life - the steady movement of the shuttle and the quiet rhythm of the loom shaping fabric thread by thread.

For this textile, Kala cotton is used - an indigenous cotton grown in the dry landscapes of western India. Resilient and naturally adapted to the region, it has been part of local textile traditions for generations.

Once the yarn is set on the loom, the fabric begins to take form. As Manji Bhai works, the motifs slowly appear directly in the cloth - not printed or embroidered later, but woven into the textile itself.

A fabric shaped by landscape, craft, and the quiet patience of the hands that make it.
